Pretty Ballerinas at BCBG

To achieve this, Philippon, who was working on behalf of Bumble and bumble, prepped the hair with the brand's styling lotion. He then pulled the hair back, twisting it into a tight "little ballerina bun," out of which flowed the ponytail.

"There is no reference or inspiration," he remarked, "it just happened and it feels right. It's not too slick and not too messy," added Philippon, as he applied Does It All hairspray to his hands and patted down loose ends atop the head. To finish off the hairstyle, he applied some styling wax to the flowing ponytails for texture and separation.

Freelance makeup artist Lisa Butler, who was using a plethora of color cosmetics brands, was inspired by "pretty dresses" in the fashion collection. "So there's no makeup," she quipped, explaining that her aim was to "exaggerate the natural skin color already there."

Butler put subtle touches of red with gold on the eyelids — "it's more of a flesh color," she said — and a taupe pencil on the inside corner of the eye and on lower lids. A "slight purple" hue highlighted the face and on the inside of the lips, Butler applied a bright red shade.

"You shouldn't be able to see the makeup," she said, "just pretty, blurry edges."
