CANALI IN THE CAN: Canali is launching its revamped Web site on Jan. 12 with a short film starring innovative graphic artist and calligrapher Job Wouters that’s called “Contours.” The movie’s shots focus on the artist’s colorful brushstrokes and intricate images as he is seen completing 80 drawings — one for each year since the brand’s creation in 1934.
Canali pays tribute to handmade craftsmanship through the brand’s hand-tailored clothes worn by Wouters as he creates his works by hand.
Elisabetta Canali, group communications director, said “the aim of the new site is to present a unique offering to a global audience through a digital solution that blends innovative technology with tailored content, giving each individual the opportunity to find their perfect fit and experience the subtle pleasure of being unique.”
In an additional interview video, the first in Canali’s new “200 Steps” content series, Wouters explains the process behind his meticulous typographic work, which has been exhibited at institutes including the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Design Museum in Helsinki.
Wouters is the first of a series of international creative talents sharing their thoughts and their work method and presented by Canali.
The Web site offers content ranging from Canali’s history and services, such as the Su Misura, allowing users to book an appointment at their nearest store, to style tips and a magazine, L’Edizione, which explores the season’s trends and styles via lifestyle features, practical styling tips and the “200 Steps” series.
The company said the site is “built on a responsive design framework,” and that it is one of the first luxury men’s wear sites “built to provide an optimal viewing experience with easy reading and navigation across a wide range of devices from desktop monitors to tablet and mobile. Being responsive, the site adapts the layout to the viewing environment by using fluid grids and flexible images to resize the pages while maintaining the correct proportions of the site.”
