ARMANI SOUNDS OFF: In an interview with German weekly magazine Die Zeit out this week, Giorgio Armani talked about the future of his company, the state of Hollywood and Italian politics.
“There will be many small Armanis in my company to continue my work,” he said, “but there will be no genius capable of taking on all this. That would mean defrauding myself and my seriousness.”
The designer, who recently opened a luxury hotel in Milan, reserved harsher words for Hollywood. “I hate it,” he said. “All relationships have been replaced by business.” This did not prevent him from observing: “Hollywood really wants my clothes!”
Armani also noted that Italy, which is currently mired in economic problems, needs “a sense of unity again and willpower to get things to get going. Without this sense of togetherness and hope the future seems to me uncertain.”
Regarding former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s resignation, Armani said: “It’s hard to believe that Berlusconi simply accepts defeat and steps down….We must not forget that he was a really powerful man; perhaps his resignation is only part of a new project.”
