There are polar vortexes and there are polar opposites. While the industry focuses on the best winter gear at this week’s Outdoor Retailer show, a heat wave is unfolding on the other side of the globe. During the Australian Open, Nike tennis ace Maria Sharapova endured 110-degree temperatures in her second round match. Other pairings were halted due to an extreme heat policy, but Sharapova, who won, was forced to play for another 45 minutes in the crippling conditions.
