LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT: Zadig & Voltaire’s artistic director Cecilia Bönström said it took her some time to track down New York-based jewelry designer Pamela Love, whose work she has admired for years. The result of their eventual encounter, through a mutual acquaintance, is a collaborative jewelry line dubbed Wild Heart. It will enter all of the French contemporary label’s stores worldwide in March.
“Pamela Love is joined with the rock attitude of Zadig,” Bönström said.
The six-item collection indeed mixes rock influences with elements of the natural world and includes items like two-finger snake rings, horn-shaped earrings and a bird-skull necklace. The items are available in antique silver, antique brass or gold plate and range in price from $210 to $560.
“People are going to like it a lot because you can wear it in many ways,” she added.
For her part, Love is hoping that the collaboration will build her renown in Europe. “I’m not as well known [in Europe] as I am in America, for sure, and I know that Zadig has a lot of exposure and reach. So I really do hope that it helps to build brand awareness and drive people to discover my main line,” she said. “It’s a mixture of my line with the Zadig aesthetic.”
It is not Zadig & Voltaire’s first venture into jewelry: The brand collaborated with Gaia Repossi in 2011 for a collection that is still in stores, and has reportedly sold well. Bönström also confided that she is designing her own “simple” earrings line for a spring 2014 launch.
