TRAINS AHEAD: The fact that Pamella Roland’s daughter Cassandra DeVos recently got engaged had nothing to do with her decision to introduce bridal for fall 2015. But that stroke of serendipity is certainly helping with the research. “I have a feeling I am going to have to make her two dresses, which a lot of the girls like,” Roland said.
Her 12-piece line of wedding gowns will make its debut during the October bridal market. In her 11-and-a-half years in business, the designer has specialized in dresses and gowns. Over the years, brides-to-be, bridesmaids and mothers-of-the-bride have bought Pamella Roland dresses and gowns for weddings and the designer has offered customized gowns in white since her company’s inception in 2002.
And the designer said she “looks at bridal dresses all the time” in researching her signature collection. Roland decided on an elaborate Princess Diana-type gown for her own 1981 nuptials — a choice that her mother tried to sway her from in favor of something more traditional. “It was crazy how much it looked like hers with the big puffy sleeves,” Roland said. As of next fall, the designer will offer strapless, cap-sleeve, sheer-sleeve and other wedding gown styles.
