TOWERING GOALS: Saks Fifth Avenue on Wednesday hosted a Super Bowl kickoff party on the seventh floor of its New York flagship. There was a preponderance of unusually tall and burly men, including the Washington Redskins’ Alfred Morris, former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum, boxer Bernard Hopkins, former New York Giants center Shaun O’Hara and Mychal Kendricks of the Philadelphia Eagles. They turned up to eat sliders and support Richard “Big Daddy” Salgado’s charity, the Big Daddy Foundation. The former NFL player and now football agent suffered an aneurysm four years ago; his foundation supports the Children’s Brain Aneurysm Center of North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y.

A portion of the evening’s proceeds throughout the store was earmarked for the charity, said Tom Ott, senior vice president and general merchandise manager over men’s, who played high school football with Salgado on Long Island.

Asked which team he’s rooting for in the Super Bowl, Ott said unequivocally, “The Broncos. Peyton Manning is such a great leader.” Vernon Davis, a tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, said he wanted Denver to win. He turned up at the event because “anytime I hear about a charity, it’s important for me to be there.” Corey Wootton, who plays for the Chicago Bears, didn’t have a favorite. “I could care less who wins or loses,” he said. “I came for the event.”
