THIEF SOUGHT BY POLICE: New York City Police are looking for a male suspect who, with the help of an accomplice whom they did arrest, shoplifted clothing at Barneys New York’s Madison Avenue store before continuing their spree at the Midtown Apple store. On Saturday around 5:35 p.m., police were notified by Barneys after one of the men was observed on camera removing items from a display, going into a fitting room and exiting without the goods. The second man then entered the fitting room and exited with the aforementioned items in a shopping bag.
The men then took flight, heading southwest a few blocks to the Apple store at 767 Fifth Avenue. Joseph Flores, a 60-year-old Bronx resident, was arrested in front of that location for stealing three Apple TVs and a set of Bose headphones. He has been charged with petit larceny. While the responding officers were trying to arrest the duo in front of the Apple store, the second suspect resisted by fighting the officers and injuring one of them before fleeing the scene. The injured officer was taken to an area hospital, treated for a back injury and released.
NYPD could not confirm where the officer was when he was injured.
Police retrieved less than $1,000 worth of merchandise stolen from Barneys. A Barneys spokeswoman declined to comment about the incident and whether charges will be pressed.
Apple did not respond to requests for comment Thursday.
The NYPD described the suspect being sought as “a male black, wearing a black shirt, camouflage shorts and black sneakers.”
