HIGH ON FOOD: Selfridges has reopened its roof for the fourth time in 70 years to launch “On The Roof With Q…,” an alfresco gourmet destination that offers barbecued meat and healthy dishes. Run in collaboration with British restaurateur Des McDonald, the rooftop restaurant offers all-day dining seven days a week as well as afternoon tea in classic, sugar-free or gluten free version. It will remain open all summer.
The food on offer is seasonal, meat dishes will be cooked over a charcoal grill, and the menu also includes seafood, superfood salads, tarts, desserts and non-alcoholic fruit cocktails by The Juicery. The space will also host talks and events with chefs, producers, and innovators within the food industry.
The store also plans to champion the British makers and producers who supply the Selfridges’ Food Halls with a storewide “Meet the Makers” campaign that runs until Sep. 1. Some 24 of the stores windows will be dedicated to food artisans and tastemakers, and there will be 350 in-store food-related over the eight-week period.
Selfridges is also inviting a string of Michelin chefs to cook at The Corner Restaurant on the store’s second floor, and for those who prefer a sweet snack that’s light on the wallet, there will be a Make My Magnum Bar on the ground floor, where customers will be able to create bespoke ice cream treats.
