NAMECHECK FOR WESTWOOD: Dame Vivienne Westwood is set to be inducted into the Scottish Fashion Awards’ hall of fame, when the organization’s ninth annual awards ceremony takes place in London Monday night. Alongside being recognized for establishing her Gold, Red and Man labels and Anglomania collection — and her work campaigning for climate change awareness and human rights issues — Westwood has been singled out for her “undeterred loyalty and unparalleled love…for Scottish textiles and fabrics,” said Tessa Hartmann, the Scottish Fashion Awards’ founder. Hartmann said that Westwood “has done more for Scottish textiles than probably any other designer in this generation…By using a mix of different tartans, [Westwood’s] ensembles explore the rich depth of color and diversity of the traditional checked pattern.” Hartmann also noted that Westwood had designed her own tartan, dubbed MacAndreas, after the designer’s husband and design partner Andreas Kronthaler. Alistair Carmichael, secretary of state for Scotland, added that he believes Westwood has “established a lasting legacy for Scottish textiles, yarns and fabrics.” Past inductees into the awards’ hall of fame include model Stella Tennant, hair stylist Sam McKnight and photographer Rankin.
