PRONOVIAS 5-O: Fifty years, fifty gowns — and “50 Love Stories,” Pronovias’ anniversary exhibit, which after last week’s run in the Convent de Los Angeles here, will move on to New York and Milan in October and November, respectively, according to a company spokeswoman. President and owner Alberto Palatchi said, “Heritage is what makes this company different. My father came from Switzerland to Barcelona in 1914 where he sold laces and embroideries out of a suitcase. The first bridal store, St. Patrick, opened in 1964. After 50 years, we’re better than ever; the ‘dream factory’ continues,” he enthused.

The exhibition’s standout gowns included a two-piece strapless dress with a white mink bodice and matching coat in silk satin designed by the house of Balenciaga, made by Pronovias and worn by Susanna Gallardo, at her November 1988 wedding to Palatchi. Also on show was a grouping of jewelled shirt-style dresses (2003) by then resident creative director Manuel Mota; various designer collaborations including Pedro Rodriguez, an iconic fashion name in Spain, and Badgley Mischka; and Genoveva Casanova’s gown, also by Mota, in organza and Chantilly lace with 50’s references, crystal and floral embroideries. The Mexican socialite married the Duchess of Alba’s son Cayetano Martínez de Irujo in 2005. They have since divorced.

The bridal firm closed fiscal 2013 with a worldwide retail presence in 105 countries including 164 stores and over 4,000 points of sale.
