NEW ACNE FLAGSHIP: Acne will open a new store at 33 Greene Street in New York in May. The 3,000-square-foot unit, on the corner of Grand Street, will replace a smaller store operated by Opening Ceremony at 10 Greene Street, which will shutter. The move is part of a strategy by the Swedish denim and contemporary sportswear label to take direct control of its U.S. business, which it initiated last year by assuming distribution rights here from former distributor, Want Agency. The new shop was previously occupied by De La Espada, a furniture retailer, and will carry Acne’s men’s and women’s collections, including shoes and accessories. Acne operates 30 stores globally, in addition to the single U.S. unit in New York. The company is majority owned by creative director Jonny Johansson and executive chairman Mikael Schiller.
