MATT MARCUS JOINS GEMVARA: Matt Marcus has joined Gemvara, the online retailer of customizable fine jewelry, as chief marketing officer.

Prior positions include a stint as vice president and chief creative officer at R/GA, where he was responsible for global marketing campaigns for clients such as Grey Goose, Capital One and Abercrombie & Fitch, and as worldwide director of Gucci’s eDivision, where he was responsible for Gucci’s global ebusiness presence in the U.S., Europe and AsiaPacific.

Marcus said his first priority is to raise the image of the brand and increase the company’s presence on social media sites, such as Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Pinterest.

The company just began its Valentine’s Day campaign using social media on Twitter, using the hashtag #lovemeincolor.

Separately, Gemvara last month opened its flagship showroom in downtown Boston to test consumer reaction to product in a physical environment.
