IN THE BLACK: Kiehl’s will introduce its first nail lacquer this summer, a glossy black that will benefit amfAR in the fight against AIDS. “We’ve had motorcycles [in our stores] for 40-plus years, and we’ve always had that biker-esque image, so we thought black would be great,” said Chris Salgardo, president. The formaldehyde-free polish will ship in late July, just in time for the company’s annual LifeRide motorcycle trip to raise awareness of HIV and funds for amfAR. The annual convoy of about 20 bikers serves as “a way to start the conversation,” said Salgardo, who initiated the ride in 2010. “And our nails will look badass along the way.” This year’s LifeRide will be the longest yet, beginning in Milwaukee and wending some 2,000 miles north and east to Kiehl’s original shop at Third Ave. and 13th St. in Manhattan. The as-yet unnamed polish will be sold at all Kiehl’s points of distribution, priced about $15 to $18. Said Salgardo, “It is cool, cool, cool.”
