INDUSTRY STANDARD: The British Fashion Council said Friday that Kate Moss will receive a Special Recognition Award at the British Fashion Awards to mark her 25-year career “and continued influence on the fashion industry.” The awards will take place on Dec. 2 at the London Coliseum in the British capital.
The model’s career began in 1988, when she was discovered in New York by Sarah Doukas, founder of Storm Model Management. The BFC said her work with the late photographer Corinne Day at the age of 15 remains “instrumental” in having shaped the face of the fashion industry.
“From the very beginning Kate was iconic; she never had to become a model,” said Donatella Versace. “She has the same energy, the same seduction and the same wit — in front of the camera and with everyone.”
Moss had previously been awarded Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2006 and in 2009 was the first person to receive a British Fashion Award decided by public vote. The London 25 award was introduced to recognize an individual who embodies the spirit of London and British fashion.
