Vionnet Launches New Bag

After more than a year as the creative director and chairman of Vionnet, Ashkenazi has launched a new bag style for the house called the Mosaic.

GOGA’S NEW BAG: After just more than a year as the creative director and chairman of the Parisian label Vionnet, Goga Ashkenazi has launched a new bag style for the house called the Mosaic.

Based in part on a schoolbag that the Moscow-bred billionaire carried as a child, the bag features interchangeable parts that can be purchased and worn separately for a one-bag, many-styles concept.

The bag is named Mosaic, according to Goga, because it is a series of smaller parts pieced together to create a whole, and it was inspired by Madame Vionnet’s collaborations with Italian futurist-cubist artist Ernesto Michahelles, aka Thayaht. It comes in two styles. The larger version features a structured rectangular “base” that can be carried on it own or as a clutch.

Additionally, the oil tycoon-turned-fashion designer crafted “faces” that serve as a contrasting flap and strap to the bag, which is snapped on, and finally, a third component, the pouch, which zips onto the back of the face and can be easily zipped off for a grab-and-go of the essentials, i.e., credit cards, keys and phone.

The bags, which will hit stores at the end of June, retail at approximately $1,500 for the large base, $1,300 for the smaller; the faces start at approximately $885 and $665 for large and small, respectively, depending on the materials.
