COMEBACK KIM: Eugenia Kim is returning to the shoes market after an almost decade long hiatus. In 2004, the designer’s initial foray into footwear was awarded ‘Accessories Designer of the Year’ by the CFDA in 2004, but shut down the endeavor soon after, once production demands proved too much.
As she enters her 16th year in the accessories market, Kim feels that now is the right time to reenter the shoe arena, and extend the brand’s overall reach. “We really took a look into the market to see what was there and what was missing,” Kim told WWD. For the designer, this required a step away from her quirky and colorful roots, citing designers such as Charlotte Olympia and Nicholas Kirkwood as satisfying the niche.
Instead, for her fall 2014 collection, Kim offers 15 sophisticated styles that still retain the designer’s unique aesthetic. Offerings range from the “Margot,” a glazed calfskin flatform, to the “Anais,” a rose gold metallic and black calfskin platform with ostrich feather details. Prices for the collection range from $535 to $1,095.
