DE SOLE TAKING NOTES: This year’s Savannah College of Art and Design’s SCADstyle event got off to a rousing start with 1,100 people turning out Tuesday night for Domenico De Sole’s Q&A with Alexander Wang. Many undergraduates started lining up for seats at 11:30 a.m. for the 6 p.m. talk. Afterward, De Sole hosted a dinner for 42 people, including his wife Eleanore and daughter Rickie. Wang wasn’t the only designer in the crowd — Eddie Borgo, Dannijo’s Danielle and Jodie Snyder and interior designer William Sofield were on hand as well. Other guests included Bergdorf Goodman’s Josh Schulman, Quentin Jones and Steven Kolb.

SCAD president and cofounder Paula Wallace and her husband Glenn made sure the decor would be worthy of the design-minded crowd. Alum Paige Striebig created “Float,” a textiles installation, for the occasion, and SCAD student Frances Russell used textiles and plants for the table displays. Another SCAD graduate, Emily Nelms Perez, provided “The Subjects” sculptures that were interspersed throughout the room.

Once seated, guests found a gift from De Sole — a SCAD notebook inscribed with his take on style, “Style is…I don’t know, but I recognize it when I see it!”
