CHANGING THE BARRE: For its spring show to be held in Paris, Maiyet is changing — or re-choreographing — its runway presentation and opting for a film-dance presentation. The label has collaborated with Benjamin Millepied, soon-to-be director of dance at the Paris Opera Ballet and husband of Natalie Portman, on an original dance with an exclusive soundtrack by London Grammar. Five dancers from L.A. Dance Project will perform in variations on looks from the spring collection (to be displayed as the film plays).
The film presentations, which are set up as five slow-motion videos, will be shown at designated times on Sept. 26 and 27.
Millepied founded L.A. Dance Project in 2012, along with composer Nico Muhly, art consultant Matthieu Humery, founding producer Charles Fabius and Nicholas Britell. Maiyet cofounder, president and creative director Kristy Caylor said the collaboration sprung from the spring collection’s dance and surrealism inspiration.
